Subject: Thank you for supporting Cougs in the 2022 session!

Message:

Today, I am writing to thank you for supporting the growing need for higher education access and research infrastructure investments. Higher education is more important than ever. We have seen this following last session's infrastructure investments for WSU Spokane, which have already begun to pay dividends in our community. Not only are more health sciences students coming to WSU to pursue degrees in desperately needed fields — including nursing, veterinary care, and groundbreaking research — but WSU's active role in health sciences is advancing care to our rural and underserved areas around the state. The passage of HB 1659 will make higher education more affordable and accessible for students by bridging the gap between cost and need to reduce barriers, improve opportunity, and advance economic security. Career Connect Washington will help fund Career Launch Grants and apprenticeships. For Cougs, the funding for the psychiatric pharmacy residency will allow us to place two residents in a clinical setting in Eastern Washington in 2023 while UW places two new residents at their new mental health teaching hospital now under construction. And the upgrades made to the Holland Library in Pullman will help consolidate library collections and reclaim space in the central core of campus — a space that could be repurposed for student study space. Providing more opportunities for students to have access to higher education in state-of-the-art facilities will increase our state workforce and build our research and health sciences expertise even further. COVID-19 has shown a light on the glaring needs of our communities, and WSU has consistently risen to the occasion to meet those needs. But with lower enrollment numbers and an uncertain future, your attention to and support of higher education is more important than ever before. Thank you and Go Cougs! Sincerely,
